Step by Step Guide – Sole Trader Gigabit Voucher Support
When you’re applying for your Gigabit Voucher to secure funding for your free full fibre network as a registered Sole Trader or Self Employed person, you will be required to provide documentation and complete a few simple steps to successfully apply for your voucher.
Step 1: Have your UTR number ready to add to your Gigabit Voucher application
Your UTR (Unique Tax Reference) will have been issued to you by HMRC when you register as either a Sole Trader or Self-Employed.
Where will I find my UTR number? You will find your UTR number on any correspondence from your accountant or HMRC. A scan or a clear photo of a letter from the HMRC or your accountant will suffice as evidence, to prove that you are a trading entity. To save yourself time and effort, please have this image ready and saved to the device (phone or computer) that you will use when signing up to your voucher.
If you file your own tax return online, you will find your UTR displayed on your HMRC web page. A screenshot of this page will suffice as evidence that you are a trading entity. Again, to save yourself time and effort, please have this image ready and saved to the device (phone or computer) that you will use when signing up to your voucher.
If you have any issues finding your UTR, you can contact HMRC on: 0300 200 3310 or visit the HMRC website to seek further advice – https://www.gov.uk/find-lost-utr-number
Step 2: Find the DCMS email in your inbox
Search your inbox from DCMS to start your application (the e-mail may have been rerouted to your spam or junk, depending on your mail settings) with the subject line “Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme – action required”
Open the e-mail and follow the link that begins like this: https://gigabitvoucher.culture.gov.uk/order-validation/ and select the Sole Trader option.
If you have the image ready displaying your UTR, this process only takes around 30 seconds!
Step 3: Sign-up is now complete now wait to Sign-off your Gigabit Voucher
After completing the Sign-up process, you will receive a final e-mail from DCMS to Sign-off. Again, the subject line will read “Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme – action required”. Please click the link provided in the email – this time you will be asked to confirm that the network has been installed and that you are connected by ticking 2 boxes and clicking “submit”. This takes 10 seconds!
Once you have signed off your voucher, your details are not stored, your details are never shared, signing up does not effect your status.
