Are you living and working in the Rothbury Area?
FACTCO is connecting the community to a fully-funded network installation. The network that is currently in the planning will be a full-fibre network, this means the community will receive, gigabit-capable or Ultrafast Broadband speeds. This connection will offer up to 1000 Mbps upload and download connectivity, allowing homes to easily share a connection and businesses will have the opportunity to expand, grow and adapt.
Tell me more about the funding…
The funding is currently known as the Rural Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme, this is changing at the end of March, but connectivity vouchers will still be available to the Rothbury Area after this date. What they will be called, and the exact process is to be confirmed.
What we need the community to do at this stage is to pledge their interest in the funded network so FACTCO can continue applying for the installation work. Currently, we have over 400 residents and businesses who have registered their interest and we are still looking for more. If you have not yet joined, you can do so here: factco.co.uk/rothbury
What is a Community Fibre Project?
Community Fibre Project is where a network is led by you, the community members. We need the backing from the community to firstly reflect the need of the network and to help generate the necessary funding for our services.
Without the backing of the community, FACTCO will not be able to cover the costs of the network build. So, we need you to register your interest for the project to proceed. – factco.co.uk/rothbury
How many people need to join?
This is completely projected dependent and is something we will understand once a survey has taken place.
When will the work begin?
We work across Northumberland and we are currently planning the phases of work to understand the coverage and how we can most effectively get everyone connected. We are looking at starting within the next 12 months. We will however work to keep the community updated on this.
Where is the network being built?
FACTCO are planning to connect Rothbury, Coquetdale, Whittingham Vale & Glanton to our full-fibre network.
As you can see, FACTCO plans to cover a large area for the network to run. The build will need to be phased out, this will either be dictated by ease of install or who has registered their interest in the network. Whichever route we decide, we plan to connect everyone who needs it.
What happens if I choose not to pledge to join the network?
To keep it simple, if you do not join initially with the funding; you will have to pay an installation fee after the network has been installed. To give you a bit more detail, let us break the process down further…
If you choose to not join the network, this means that you will not be connected at the first installation stage. The network will however run through the planned areas, so to connect you later would be a possibility but there will be a cost for you to do that.
As the funding currently stands, each premise can apply for a voucher – up to £1500 for a resident and up to £3500 for a business. We would have to review the pricing once the network is built to see what is needed per install post the initial build.
