How to Set Up a Router: Linksys Velop Setup

Recently connected as part of one of our Community Fibre Projects? Here’s a brief quick start guide to your lovely new Linksys WHW03 V2 Router.

The moment has arrived! If you’re reading this, it’s likely you’ve been connected as part of our Community Fibre Projects. Once you complete your Linksys Velop setup and download the Linksys app, you’ll soon be enjoying all the benefits of lightning-fast full fibre broadband.

All the fiddly network installation work will have been completed. It’s time to get your router connected.

About Your New Router: Linksys Velop WHW03 V2

As part of your full fibre network installation, we have supplied a router. If yours is a shiny new Linksys Velop WHWO3 V2 Router, you’re in the right place.

The Linksys Velop is a powerful router with Gigabit Ethernet ports, two 5GHz networks capable of 867 Mbits/sec and a 2.4GHz network capable of 400 Mbits/sec. But enough of the technical stuff!

Thanks to the Linksys app, Linksys Velop setup is extremely easy. So, we’ve put together the following guide to teach you how to set up a router.

We’ve taken a look at some of the most frequently asked questions asked when figuring out how to set up a router.

How Do I Set Up My Router (Parent Node)?

Linksys Velop setup is simple.

  1. Wire Up – Connect an ethernet cable from your optical fibre modem (the one we installed in your home) to the left hand ethernet port on the underside of your router.
  2. Power Up – Next, plug the power cord into the 12V DC/CC port on the underside of the router and then plug it into a power socket. Wait 5-6 minutes until the light on top is solid blue.
  3. Connect – Grab whichever wireless devices you are using and connect them to the Wi-Fi name (SSID) found on the sticker underneath the node.
  4. Add Child Nodes (Optional) – If you have any child nodes to install, you can set them up now using info found below.

How Do I Set Up the Linksys App?

The Linksys app offers a straightforward way to set up your router’s Wi-Fi connection. It’s also a wonderful way to monitor, manage and troubleshoot your connection.

You can even use the app to change the name of your Wi-Fi connection and set up parental controls.

To set it up for your Linksys Velop WHW03 V2 router, simply download the app from either the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store.

 

Then, in your phone’s Wi-Fi settings, connect to your Velop router’s signal and open the Linksys app.

From here, tap either ‘Log In’ (if you already have an account) or ‘Manage your Wi-Fi’ if you do not.

If you haven’t made one already, it’s easy to create a Linksys Smart Wi-Fi account. Just tap ‘New Here?’ and follow the steps.

However, if you don’t wish to create an account, you can simply choose ‘Use Admin Password’ or ‘Router Password’ to log in.

The admin/router password you need to log in is the same as the setup Wi-Fi password on the sticker found on the underside of your node.

What Are Parent and Child Nodes?

The parent node is another term for your main router. This parent node connects to your modem with an ethernet cable.

Child nodes, on the other hand, are optional additional routers. These can be added to your network to improve wireless coverage in larger homes.

These child nodes connect to your Velop router wirelessly or via an ethernet cable.

We supply each of our customers with a single router. Child nodes are available separately from the manufacturer’s website if you need them.

My Internet Is ON But My Node Is Still Not Connected?

Not all internet connections connect automatically.

If this is the case, go to the settings of your Linksys app. From here, tap advanced settings and then internet settings.

Select ‘Connection Type’ and change this to ‘PPPoE’ and then enter your username and password and click save.
