Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme Announces Additional Top Up Funds

The Rural Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme has already supported over 2,000 live connections and has committed almost £20m of funding in total. Last week the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport announced additional top up funds to support the most remote areas in the UK.

Who benefits from the additional funding?

Three areas in the UK have been identified as the concentrated areas for this additional funding: Wales, the English Borderlands and West Sussex. So how much funding can they apply for?

Wales:

The Welsh Government has made additional funding available which means that for new RGC Projects in Wales the maximum value of vouchers for qualifying rural residential beneficiaries in Wales increases by £1,500 to £3,000 and for SMEs from £3,500 to £7,000.

These increased values are available in qualifying rural locations where the currently available broadband speed is less than 30 Mbps.

English Borderlands:

The English counties of Cumbria and Northumberland – together known as the Borderlands Partnership – with support from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) Growth Fund – are also able to offer increased maximum voucher values. In this part of the UK the maximum value of vouchers for rural residential beneficiaries increases by £1,500 to £3,000 and for SMEs from £3,500 to £7,000.

These increased values are available in qualifying rural locations where the currently available broadband speed is less than 30 Mbps.

West Sussex:

In this part of the UK the maximum value of vouchers for rural residential beneficiaries increases by £2,500 to £4,000 and for SMEs by £500 to £4,000. These increased values are available in qualifying rural locations where the currently available broadband speed is less than 100 Mbps.

This is fantastic news for rural communities. This will enable registered suppliers like us to connect smaller rural villagers and reach the most remote areas in the UK. The additional support will allow us to provide the funding  certain communities need to install a full-fibre networks. Officially bridging the digital gap between urban and rural areas!
