Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How does the gigabit broadband voucher scheme work?

A: Please have a look at this above which explain everything you need to know.

Q: How many tenants need to sign up to the project in order to start installing?

A: We do not have an exact figure as of yet. A site survey will confirm the cost of the installation, from there will we be able to confirm exact figures.

Q: Will the site survey cost us (the residents) anything?

A: No. It will not cost anything and there is no obligation to take the service.

A: After 12 months, yes. Any provider that wants to provide broadband service to Coquet Grange will technically be able to do so. They will

Q: Can we choose a different supplier?

Q: Who owns the network?

A: FACTCO will own the network once it has been installed. FACTCO will also be responsible for the maintenance of the network. For example, if there is an accident on the estate FACTCO will arrange for the repairs of the line/equipment.

Q: Where are FACTCO based?

A: Liverpool. We currently have one member of staff in Northumberland and are currently recruiting for more. Our support engineers are also based in Northumberland. Most issues can be fixed remotely.

Q: Is my house worth more with full fibre?

A: This is a difficult one… It certainly won’t be worth any less! It will also be a lot more “saleable” with a full fibre connection. This study is from a few years ago but if anything, we would say full fibre is even more important now.

We hope we've answered your questions. If you have anything else you'd like to confirm with our team we will happily help you, contact us directly with any additional concerns that you may have, email the team at or call 0333 305 7560

We've also created a PDF which includes further resources and information regarding full fibre network installations.

Q: Does this network use the current BT Copper network?

A: No, this is a full fibre network. A fibre will be installed directly into your home (FTTP)

Q: Do we have a dynamic IP address?

A: No, each customer will be given a static IP address at no extra charge.

Q: Do we need to set up a company or deal with any legalities when FACTCO install this network?

A: No. FACTCO handle all aspects of the installation and are audited by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport at the start and end of the installation.

Q: What if, for any reason, FACTCO cease trading?

A: We have an agreement with Talk Talk Business that they will assume responsibility for the network. You can also switch provider if needs be.

Q: What internet speeds can we get?

A: Our packages start from 100Mbps (upload and download) for £24.99 per month all the way up to 1000Mb (upload and download).

Q: So, can I get 1000Mb via WiFi?

A: Not yet. WiFi is currently not capable of the same speeds as a cable connection. A cable will always perform better than WiFi regarding internet speed.

Q: How much is the broadband?

A: All of the packages can be found on this page -

See here

Q: How much is your line rental?

A: Zero. We do not charge for line rental.

Q: How long will this take?

A: We would aim to have the network up and running within the first 6 months of 2020.

Q: If I don’t sign up now, can I still subscribe to the service at a later date?

A: Of course. However, if the voucher scheme has run out of funding we will charge for the installation.

Q: What are the next steps?

A: A site survey will be arranged, and a full proposal submitted (and hopefully approved) by the end of November. We would aim to start work early 2020, the whole project will take around 3-6 months to complete.

Q: Will the funding be affected by the upcoming election?

A: We have asked the DCMS this question and have been told the election will have no impact on the funding although we are talking about politics here so please do not quote me on this!

Q: Will the road be dug up?

A: Hopefully not. The goal is to use the existing BT ducts and poles that have already been installed.

Q: Can I choose where the router will be installed in my home?

A: Yes.

Q: This seems to be good to be true!?

A: We get that a LOT! We also got his response from the businesses on The Shambles in York, here is what they has to say once we had completed the network: Watch here

Q: How much is your line rental?
