We’ve taken a deep dive into a question that everyone asks when joining a Community Fibre Project with FACTCO; can I switch broadband mid contract?
If you’ve recently noticed one of our Community Fibre Projects happening in your area, it’s a given that you will still be in contract with another broadband provider.
Thankfully, this is something we’re used to dealing with as a team. We can assure you that it will not stop you being able to Register Your Interest in joining a Community Fibre Project with us.
However, we thought we’d explain how this all works. Use this guide to make sure you don’t miss out on free full fibre internet installation with the Project Gigabit Voucher Scheme!
How long before my broadband contract ends can I switch? Can I still register my interest with you?
If you’re currently tied to a contract with another supplier, you can still register your interest in our project gigabit voucher scheme.
It is possible to switch suppliers immediately. However, switching immediately may require you to pay a costly exit fee to leave – so it may be worth waiting it out.
If you’re currently tied to a another supplier, we’ve included a couple of options depending on how long you have left. Use the scenarios below to find out what you should do.
What if I have less than 12 months left on my current broadband contract?
You can sign up to the scheme if you have less than 12 months left in your contract. If you choose to do so, we will ensure that the network is connected up to your premises. We can then connect you (free of charge) once your contract expires with your current provider.
This means you will not miss out on a funded installation, and you won’t have to pay for two contracts at once.
What if I have over 12 months left on my contract?
This is where it gets a bit tricky. Project Gigabit Vouchers are only valid for 12 months from the point at which they are issued.
But don’t panic! If your current has more than 12 months remaining, it’s still important to register your interest in the project.
We will simply make a note of your contract end date and then get back in touch with you further down the line.
My broadband contract is coming to an end…how do I avoid signing up for another 12 months?
First things first: do not sign another contract! Instead, insist on being placed on a 30-day rolling contract.
Your current provider will try and re-sign you to a lengthy deal – usually using very tempting incentives.
We advise against falling for this. Remaining on a 30-day rolling contract instead will allow you to be flexible with your exit date. It will also help you avoid any costly exit fees.
